LRN and numbering data for carriers.
Lunar Carrier Services will give carriers real-time number portability (LRN) lookups and NPA-NXX routing and rating reference data, delivered as an API and as feeds. It is in development and not available yet.

01 · The question
What an LRN answers.
When someone keeps their number and moves to another carrier, the number is ported. Its NPA-NXX still points to the carrier the block was assigned to. The LRN, the Location Routing Number, identifies the switch that serves the number now, so the call can be routed to where the number lives.

02 · The reference
What numbering reference data is.
Numbers are assigned to carriers in blocks. Numbering reference data describes those assignments: for each NPA-NXX, and each thousands-block within it, the operating company that holds it, its rate center and its LATA. Routing and rating both start from it. The industry's best-known directory of this kind is the LERG.

03 · Delivery
Two ways to take it.
Ask when a call needs an answer, or keep the data in your own systems. Which suits you depends on your traffic and the questions you ask per call.

04 · Operation
How it will be run.

Access will need an API key, and each customer will have its own keys and its own rate limits.

The service stays switched off until the data licences it needs are in place and counsel has reviewed them. Those licences will also decide what the service can include and who can receive it. Until then, nobody outside Lunar Systems is served.

Where it stands.
Lunar Carrier Services is in development. Nothing on this page is live. What comes next is the data licences and a legal review of them, then the service itself. It will launch only once both are done, and those licences will also decide what the service can include and who can receive it.
